Vox and Buzfeed have obtained the privilege to interview President Barack Obama. Vox's interview will be available on its website tomorrow morning (access it here), while Buzzfeed will interview the President later in the day. A preview of Vox's interview is currently available via Facebook.
These interviews represent an important achievement for new media because the White House has historically given traditional media the exclusive right to interview the President. The White House's willingness to work with Vox and Buzzfeed legitimizes the work of these organizations in reporting hard news. Furthermore, these events signal that the White House will use new media in the future in order to more effectively reach the American people.
