During the semester, I shall post course material and students will comment on it. Students are also free to comment on any aspect of media politics, either current or historical. There are only two major limitations: no coarse language, and no derogatory comments about people at the Claremont Colleges.

Scorpions on a Plane!
Over the weekend, a scorpion stung a passenger on an Alaska Airlines flight from LAX to Portland just before takeoff. Medics were soon on the scene, and the episode delayed the flight for 50 minutes.
Playing on the fears of many passengers, a significant portion of media outlets have picked up the story. The airline's PR staff is now on full alert, explaining the extent of the situation to the media. News outlets reached out to "experts" to determine the exact origin of the arachnid,
According to an airline spokesman, a flight attendant ultimately squashed the critter, but he cannot confirm how. Reports indicate that there may be a second scorpion.
