Hurricane Nate hit the U.S. this weekend as the fourth hurricane this year to make landfall in the country this year. Coverage of Hurricane Nate has been noticeably very limited, especially compared to stories of Hurricane Harvey, which dominated news coverage when it first made landfall. Hurricane Nate, unlike the previous hurricanes, did not lead to any loss of lives in the U.S., though there was extensive property damage and some flooding. Coverage has also likely decreased in national news outlets because public interest (for people who do not live in the impacted region) in the fourth hurricane in the last few months has gone down.
The New York Times reported that Tropical Storm Nate (before it was upgraded to a category 1 hurricane) caused widespread flooding in Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua and the flooding led to the loss of 22 lives. This, however, was not widely reported because it did not impact U.S. citizens.
