It was already bad in 2008, when Season 5 of The Wire showed avery accurate scene of The Baltimore Sun.

Now it is worse.

Why the change?  Mostly the Internet.

People bought newspapers for things other than political news.

"Unmediated media" -- reaching audiences directly and through "signal boosts"

  • Social Media
Citizen Journalism and George Floyd

24-hour news cycle and "rapid response"

Overtly partisan networks and sites
